Aloha, I started helping with TNR for cats on the Windward side in 2013. I have learned a lot and am impressed with the concern and commitment of community cat caregivers. I really enjoyed the Pet Depot and hope it can be a regular thing. I would like to see community cat caregivers get more organized and recruit more people to do TNR. I think the lives of our feline friends will improve dramatically if each neighborhood has several people working together on TNR. Many hands make light work.

Declining health requires that I find another caretaker for a small sub-colony of cats at He`eia.

My name is Ed. I am a part-time feeder and occasional trapper (TNRM) for felines at He`eia State park on the Windward coast, in Kane'ohe. I also feed ferals around the island, wherever I find them. Numerous people tend the cats there in one fashion or another, but our organization is casual, and some people only do certain sections of the park, depending on their abilities and resources. We have several VERY dedicated people (Connie, Susan, Sharon), and others who fill-in, like myself. The lessees of the park (Kama`aina Kids) seems very anti-cat; though they are leasing the facilities (and, in turn renting them out), the park belongs to the people of Hawai`i. We do try to minimize the impact of our activities, by feeding at dusk, not using plates, picking up trash, etc.
Rep. Jessica Wooley has been informed of this colony and our difficulties, and is sympathetic to our cause.
