Aloha everyone- My name is Keoni Vaughn. I live in Honolulu, but recently accepted a position on Lana'i and work with the Lana'i Animal Rescue Center. They have approximately 375 adorable cats at their sanctuary and all are happy and well looked after. I recently worked for the Hawaiian Humane Society for nearly 10 years. I started off as a humane investigator while leaving as the VP/Director of Operations. Throughout my time at HHS, I have dealt with many many different cat situations.
Unsterilized, outdoor, and feral cats are a huge issue in Hawaii. I'm hoping this forum will be a helpful resource to those looking for help and/or advice.
If you're ever in Lana'i, feel free to stop by the sanctuary.
Check out this video from the Lana'i Animal Rescue Center.. It has over 138,000 views on YouTube!

Declining health requires that I find another caretaker for a small sub-colony of cats at He`eia.

Keoni,
The Lanai shelter is awe inspiring! Our '100 cats' in He`eia need something like this. Susan White is checking into the availability of an adjacent piece of property where we might be able to 'contain' the ferals. Then, to find funding for fencing and building.

Hi, I adopted my kitty Zooey from the Hawaiian Human Society through Petco last year. As a relatively new cat owner, I am still learning a lot about the feline behaviour. I moved to Hawaii last year and I noticed there are many stray cats on the island. I want to do as much as I can to help out these kitties. Hopefully, I can learn something from this forum. Aloha, everyone! I have been involved in feline rescue for 5 years now and have several of my own rescues. I do private fostering and adoptions (once they are fixed and chipped) on a small scale when I have the time and money available. I also do TNRM in the area I reside in since it appears that my neighbors will often just trap cats and relocate them to other places around the island or take them into HHS. I look forward to meeting fellow cat lovers, rescuers, and learning more from other folks!

Thank you for establishing this forum for networking and resource sharing! Hoping to see more connectivity among trappers and feeders. We can't make progress without a targeted approach and collaboration. Small acts = big change.
