Hi Everyone. I have been a huge fan of animals all my life. I thought I was going to be a veterinarian but I'm too much of a softie to handle that as a career. I'm currently the mother of a 6 year old fur baby. She's an injured rescue that I've had since she was a few days old. She's my miracle kitty and has probably used up a few of her lives in her first year. This is my first forum and I wanted to be able to get ideas and share ideas with other fellow animal/feline caregivers.

Keoni, The Lanai shelter is awe inspiring! Our '100 cats' in He`eia need something like this. Susan White is checking into the availability of an adjacent piece of property where we might be able to 'contain' the ferals. Then, to find funding for fencing and building. Ed Thanks Ed- It's really a unique setting. If you're ever on Lana'i, please email me ahead of time and I'll be happy to show you around.

I have been feeding community cats for many years and have come to realize there will never be enough sanctuaries to contain them all. Thus, I feel that government should allow colonies to exist in parks and other sites where there are caretakers who abide by a set of rules to spay/neuter, pick up any waste and keep a clean feeding area. Like at the public dump would be a good area. There's lots of land and a colony can easily be maintained. The cat problem in Hawaii won't just go away because politicians ignore it.

Aloha everyone! I'm a mommy to a 1 year old female black cat, Batman. Before Batman adopted my boyfriend & I at the Hawaiian Humane Society, I was more of a dog lover and had never owned a cat. Stepping into the cat rooms at the HHS used to be uncomfortable for me as I feared getting bit or clawed. I appreciate this forum as an opportunity to learn from and connect with other cat-loving cats. Looking forward to reading posts about addressing hyper activity & introducing Batman to other people/pets. Thanks for starting this up!
