Anyone have any info on the state park cats? How many and who is caring for them. Would like to reach someone. Complaints are escalating about cats in the park and wanted to see if we can get info to ist. - Jacque Vaughn tel: 3562212

Declining health requires that I find another caretaker for a small sub-colony of cats at He`eia.

There are over 100 cats in various parts of He`eia State Park and the adjacent harbor facility, which is administered by the Hawai`i State DLNR and leased to Ka`ama`aina Kids as a recreational facility. In turn, Ka`ama`aina Kids rents out the facility to local moviemakers and local families for celebrations (and income).
In the past KK has been negatively ociated with the cats, to the degree of discussion of culling and relocation (according to anonymous staff), however, discussions between KK and two major players, Susan White (major TNRM) and Connie (last name unknown), and KK, have resulted in an agreement with a staff named 'Andy,' that KK will provide a temporary shelter for the cats in an unused trailer which has racks and has had towels and pet beds donated by feeders. Their desire is to contain the cats in the area in the NE corner of the parking lot. This has not been working well, though some cats in that area have taken to sleeping in the trailer, and most feeders feed within or around the trailer.
Personally, I have attempted to 'move' my cats from where they live (and ate) to that corner to the effect of having cats run over when moving from 'home' to 'feeding.' I am disillusioned with this attempt to "herd cats" from their homes to a new home. It is not working, as some refuse to move - even for food.
We have tried to cooperate with KK in every way. I have sought exemption by talking to Andy, and he refused. We have no coherent organization there, and people are feeding when and where it is convenient.
I don't know how to move forward. We were requested to not use paper plates, so I have used large vine leaves to keep the food off the ground. And to not use plastic for water. I have used Stainless steel and ceramics, which have often been removed.
I have attempted to meet with other casual, but regular 'feeders' to convey 'regulations,' but I'm not always there, and email contact has been intermittent.
I look forward to suggestions, recommendations and comments, as there are numerous needy felines at this facility.

This is spirit, but the board is blocking me from posting here when I log in.
This is an update to He`eia State Park Colony in Kane`ohe.
Andy, from Kama`aina Kids met again with Susan and Connie. They agreed moving the gate area sub-colony to the corner of the parking lot was a failure, and agreed to allow that sub-colony to remain, as long as they were fed off the gr strip.
Susan White cleared an area in the woods, and moved a pallet there, and covered it partly with a board, and provided a SS pan for water (Yea Susan!). I added a plywood slab so the pallet is completely covered.
I am feeding that sub colony daily at dusk, after the chickens go to roost. Occasionally others stop by and feed them, too.
KK moved the trailer so the cats inside are less obvious, and feeders try to keep the feeding close to that trailer, but the cats still range all over the parking lot.
I run into Connie from me to time, but she is getting old and infirm. (82 years old!) I'm too disabled to do more than I can, and we need help at He`eia to take some of the weight off Connie. ANYBODY who can help is free to contact me at spirit@hawaii.rr.com - Connie is feeding at the Parking lot and down by the harbor. Susan has been doing most of the TNRM, but I have (unsuccessfully so far) been trying to help. Haven't crossed paths with her in a while.
It's a step upward, but we still need help. Especially someone to ease Connie's burden.
